Modern Art in Brazil

This art piece is called "Operarios" (Workers) by Tarsila do Amaral in 1933, painted in Brazil. Tarsila do Amaral is the most famous artist in Brazil. The "Workers" painting is the largest Tarsila made in her career. This painting represents the exhausted workers from the fumes coming from factories. Tarsila used art elements such as color to show a diverse group of people, tone to make the people look fatigued and shape to create the factories and buildings in the background.
This art piece is called "IDA" by Athos Bulcao in 1999, painted in Brazil. He created ceramic panels around the capital to bring more color and pattern. The art elements used are color; blue and green, space with some blank areas to make the colors pop out more, and shapes to create a pattern in this piece.
This painting is called "Boys with Sheep" by Candido Portinari in 1959, painted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Portinari used art elements such as tone to create a dark background so the children and sheep stand out; he used shape and color to create the light on the ground.
I selected Brazil for this non-Western blog because I enjoy the artwork created above.
