Sunset Aglow by Bob Ross 


Who is Bob Ross? His full name is Robert Norman Ross. He is a famous painter and art instructor through his own TV show. The show is called The Joy of Painting, Ross had his art show for 11 years before it ended. 

I selected one of his art pieces, Sunset Aglow which is from Season 26 Episode 12. He made this video/artwork on February 16th,1993. If you are interested in trying to paint it yourself or if you want to see how he created this piece the link to the video will be at the bottom of this post.

For me, this art piece gives off a relaxing feeling because of how well Bob Ross was able to create a natural look in his work. Ross was able to apply art elements which are; tone, color, pattern, and texture. He was able to use tone in how he made the mountains appear to be from a distance in his painting. He used color in a way that gave this piece a relaxing/calm mood, he blended colors to get a sunset behind the mountains and create a reflection of the sky off the water. He used a natural pattern by creating branches on the trees. He used optical texture by creating an appearance of a real mountain, body of water, and wood, he also used ephemeral texture with the clouds that he created. 

This artwork relates to me because a lot of Bob Ross's work is inspired by Alaska, which is where I am from. I would like to see a copy of this painting in my office because I currently work at the clinic on Eielson AFB, which is where he was a First Sergeant!

    Bob Ross has always been one of my favorites. I still watch him on the PBS reruns. I personally think you described this work of art perfectly. I do have a fun fact though.  The Great Depression       The Great Depression began in 1929 and ended in 1939, it was a long and an extremely bad decline in the economic activity. There was a lot of unemployment's during this time which made it difficult for people to pay for the mandatory things and they ended up losing their houses and many more. The stock market crashed, it effected individuals, businesses, and banks. During this time a lot of immigration happened hoping they can find work somewhere else, a lot of crime started to occur, living standards also dropped.       "Sharecroppers' Revolt" by Joseph Paul Vorst was created in January of 1939 in Missouri. Vorst created this piece to represent the effects that happened during the Great Depression. Farmers got evicted from their house and had to move into shacks.
